York Region Food Network has launched a Compost Learning Hub (The Hub)! This physical space is a hub for waste-free practices, education about food waste and training for compost and waste reduction techniques. It is a space where community can come together to learn, share and advocate for a healthier planet.
The Compost Learning Hub was created to provide opportunities for folks to connect with nature and use compost as a way to reduce their impact on the environment.
At a municipal level, food waste is expensive to process and when it enters the landfill it creates greenhouse gases harming our environment.
Composting is a great way to improve soil, grow the next generation of plants, improve water quality, as well as take care of the environment.
Educational workshops and in-person tours will be held at the Hub in the Spring of 2021 and through online forums until then.
