York Region Food Council Meeting
October 26 @ 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
At this meeting the York Region Food Council will be welcoming new members and planning out the next two years of the Food Council.
The York Region Food Council envisions a community where health and social justice are prioritized, and all residents have economic and physical access to healthy, local, culturally acceptable and environmentally sustainable food. The Council views this work through a lens of diversity, equity and inclusion.
With a focus on health, equity, food security and environmental sustainability, the Councilās goals are to:
1) Create an Engaged and Diverse Group – Bring together a diverse group of partners with various interests in local food systems to educate and advocate on local food and farming issues, and to promote healthy dignified food access for all.
2) Build Capacity to Influence Change – Establish capability and build capacity for the Council to reduce inequities and build a health-focused local food system.
3) Acknowledge and Incorporate Indigenous Knowledge – Acknowledge the history and ongoing legacy of colonialism, commit to truth and reconciliation and incorporate Indigenous knowledge, food systems, values and traditions into all initiatives.
This is a closed event for Council members only.
