Community Mobilizer

Status: Full-time, 9 months

Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Aurora and work from home

Hourly Wage Rate: $30.00 per hour

Schedule: 37.5 hours/week

Position Overview:

The Community Mobilization Manager role will support the work of both York Region Food Network and the Social Planning Council of York Region in developing a Social Procurement Collaborative for York Region. This is a new role for a 10-month project that will mobilize a variety of stakeholders to create strategic partnerships in York Region and ensure knowledge is readily available for partners to take direct action to support their communities using social procurement. Also, so knowledge will be readily available for community residents who want to establish themselves in the business of social procurement.

This role will build partnerships and collaborations in the community, develop new approaches for tackling complex social issues and coordinate networking sessions, collective impact work and peer learning opportunities.

This position is ideal for someone looking to build meaningful connections with community partners in York Region, develop innovative and collaborative approaches for poverty reduction and educate and advocate for policies and actions that reduce inequities and promote healthier communities for all.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Formally build an intersectoral group related to social procurement.
  • Ensure folks with lived experiences of precarious employment are active members of the intersectoral group.
  • Hold focus groups with stakeholders to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer trainings.
  • Develop asset map of social procurement in York Region.
  • Develop trainings, toolkit and other knowledge dissemination tools to expand social procurement in York Region.
  • Create and maintain relationships with community organizations, local governments and media on social planning issues.
  • Develop, produce and/or edit high quality project and program reports.

Qualifications

The Community Mobilization Manager is best suited for an energetic, positive self-starter with the following qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in community-based projects
  • Experience in outreach and community development
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Confident presenting to small/large groups
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health, income security, decent work
  • Well-organized with demonstrated ability to manage time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of social enterprise, alternative funding models, grant writing, an asset
