The Charitable Chef

York Region Food Network’s (YRFN) virtual fundraiser, The Charitable Chef, is partnering
with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to spotlight the cookbook
Tastes from Home: Recipes from the Refugee Community’.

Refugees from across Canada have opened their hearts and their homes to share their recipes and personal
stories of resilience and hope through UNHCR Canada’s first-ever free e-cookbook, available for
download at – Tastes from Home or Cuisines du monde. Canada is a global leader in refugee resettlement,
welcoming more than 30,000 vulnerable refugees in 2019. More than one million refugees have
been resettled to Canada since 1980.

YRFN celebrates cultures and cuisines from around the world through its garden programming and
Newcomer Kitchen program. On October 21, The Charitable Chef will feature recipes from ‘Tastes
from Home’ participant Anuarite Manyoha, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who will facilitate
a virtual cook along.

How it works:

– Simply purchase a ticket ($125 provides all you need for dinner for 2!)
– Pick up your ingredient kit from York Region Food Network
– Zoom in on event day and Chef Anuarite Manyoha will lead us through her food story and the
preparation of a traditional Democratic Republic of the Congo meal.
– For those unable to pick up a meal kit, a special $25 ‘view only’ ticket will be available with proceeds
going to UNHCR and Hope, a charity supported by Anuarite
