York Region Food Network’s Seed Library aims to make seeds accessible to everybody in our community. To learn more about what a seed library is, click here. Though our physical seed library is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, we have moved York Region Food Network’s library online. During the 2021 season, the seed library will be in operation from March 25 – June 25. Between these dates, you can fill out this request form to request your 3 packets of seeds. Seeds will be sent out via mail every 2 weeks.
To keep our seed stocks strong, we ask gardeners to try their hand at seed saving and to share some of your saved seeds or extra seeds with our seed library at the end of the season. Here are some great resources for learning how to save seeds:
York Region Food Network is a not-for-profit, community-based organization working to improve access to affordable, nutritious food for all people in York Region. We coordinate several projects including breakfast drop-in, community gardens, the compost learning hub, gleaning trips, community kitchens and our Good Food Box program. We are also involved in public education activities to promote a healthy food system and policy changes that will address the root causes of hunger and food insecurity in our community. If you would like to offer a financial donation to York Region Food Network’s seed library and supporting programs so that we can continue this work, please CLICK HERE.
